Botox Injections

Dr. Khan continues to be the only injector of BOTOX . She will not delegate this responsibility to a physician assistant, nurse, medical assistant, or anyone else. This fact is important to the integrity of her practice and to her patients' consistent care and his high patient return rate.

Q1: How does BOTOX work and how is it used?

Doctors have used Botox for years to help fight the effects of aging. Botox is a prescription medicine of purified protein produced by a muscle relaxing agent obtained from a bacterium called Clostridium Botulinum. BOTOX is used cosmetically to reduce the activity of the muscles that cause frown lines, horizontal lines in the forehead, crows feet, and the hard "11's" between your brows. BOTOX temporarily stops these muscles from contracting, which smoothes the lines and wrinkles on your face.  Sometimes, small amounts of BOTOX can be administered by the corners of the mouth to raise them or injected into the chin to stop dimpling or the"orange peel" look. BOTOX results typically last 3-4 months.

Botox injections are a non-surgical way to:

  • Softening frown lines, horizontal forehead lines, and crow's feet
  • Relaxing deep wrinkles between the brows, which are sometimes called "11s"
  • Lifting the brow and opening the eyes
  • Raising the corners of the mouth
  • Stopping chin dimpling or "orange peel" look
  • Stopping excessive underarm and palm sweating

Q2: What does a BOTOX treatment consist of?

All Botox injections are performed by Dr. Khan. At your first visit you will meet with Dr. Khan and her assistants and sign a consent. You will be evaluated by looking closely at the your forehead by asking to see eyebrows when raised and lowered. Other areas evaluated will include the sides of the eyes that tend to wrinkle and lines between the eyebrows. The procedure takes less than 15 minutes to perform. If needed, you will be given small icepacks to apply post-treatment to lessen any possible bruising. Some patients experience small "bee stings" at each injection site, but these should dissipate within an hour. When you leave, you will have no downtime and can return to normal activities immediately.

Each patient has a choice to receive 25 or 50 units of BOTOX. 25 units is most often used to treat only the "11s", the deep wrinkles between the brows. A full treatment is 50 or 50 plus units, which treats the forehead, between the brows, and the sides of each eye (crow's feet). Nearly all patients opt for a full treatment.

Botox results generally give a relaxed and youthful appearance. Where the Botox was administered, there is a smoothing of lines and a loss of tension in those muscles. Results typically begin to appear within days and should be fully noticeable after 10 days. Touch-ups or additional Botox will not be administered until 10 days have passed so full effects can take place. Patients who consistently receive Botox may notice it takes a bit longer to kick in after each treatment. This is normal, but no additional injections should be done until the 10 days have passed.

As stated, Botox is charged in either 25 or 50 unit treatments. For a full treatment where 50 units are used for the forehead, between the brows, and for the crow's feet. To treat only the area between the brows using 25 units. Our patients always receive full strength Botox and continue to return to Dr. Khan for consistent results.
